Light Now

the light is here now

the faces the same

but everyone look different than before

i listen for voices i used to recognize

and i search for places i used to go

people i used to know

dark closed back rooms

replaced by a crowded front floor

they all know my name

but i forgot most of theirs

somehow i end up back at the top of the stairs

where routines are forbidden

and the light there is flared

just when i think i can stay

they tell me to go

i find myself outside

in the new falling snow

i think i wait shortly

but it’s almost lifelong

once back inside

i finally know how

but the light here is gone now
